Keep your feet healthy this fall season

Here are some tips for keeping your feet healthy during the fall season:

1. Proper footwear: Choose comfortable, well-fitting shoes with good arch support to prevent foot pain and discomfort.

2. Moisturize: As the weather gets cooler, dry skin can become a problem. Keep your feet moisturized to prevent cracks and dryness.

3. Keep them dry: Wet feet can lead to fungal infections. Use waterproof footwear when necessary and ensure your feet are dry after being exposed to rain or damp conditions.

4. Trim toenails: Regularly trim your toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails.

5. Warm socks: In cooler weather, wear warm, moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet comfortable and dry.

6. Foot exercises: Stretch and strengthen your feet with exercises like toe curls and ankle rotations to maintain flexibility.

7. Watch for signs of trouble: Pay attention to any unusual pain, swelling, or skin changes on your feet. Seek medical advice from Dr. Noah if you notice any issues.

8. Orthotics: If you have specific foot problems, consider using orthotic insoles or arch supports as recommended by Dr. Noah.

9. Stay active: Maintain a healthy level of physical activity to improve circulation and overall foot health.

10. Elevate your feet: If you experience swelling, elevate your feet when resting to reduce fluid buildup.

Remember that everyone’s feet are unique, so it’s essential to listen to your body and consult Dr. Noah at Noah Foot and Ankle Center if you have specific concerns about your foot health.

Winter Footcare

Let’s talk feet! Okay, I know it’s not something we normally talk about, but it is what we do here at Noah Foot and Ankle Center, all day every day!  Our feet get lost during the winter months under layers of socks, boots, slippers, and the list goes on. I mean honestly, do you even look at your feet in the winter? Let’s not let our feet get lost and neglected this winter! Winter weather foot care tips you say? Of course, we can help with that!

1.     Go for a pedicure! Pedicures always come with a massage that aids in relieving physical pain and stress. During the winter months feet can start to get rough and dry. With routine pedicures, the expert works with tools and loofahs clearing away dead skin cells.

2.     Wash your feet every day! Yes, you are probably thinking isn’t this something you should do every day anyway? You won’t believe how many feet are neglected during the winter as they hide away in boots and fuzzy socks. With daily cleaning, it helps keep the fungal and odor-causing infections away. We highly recommend a foot brush tool, to help with the areas between the toes!

3.     Moisturize and trim nails regularly.  Apply cream or lotion to lock in moisture and help reduce/prevent cracks and dry skin.  Who wants an ingrown toenail? My guess is not you! So, keep those toenails trimmed during the winter just like you would during the summer.

4.     Skip the nail polish.  Did you know wearing nail polish more than a week at a time do not allow your feet to breathe properly?  This can create a breeding ground for fungi.  Let your feet breathe this winter!
